Favorite Winter Fragrances

IMG_1679

It gets so hot here in NOLA that I save a few fragrance favorites for the winter just because to me– they seem too heavy with the hot, humid, summer air. These are some of my all time favorites that I use every winter. (I am not great at describing scents so I’ll leave that to Sephora)

Balenciaga – Balenciaga Paris

As the scent opens, an airy bouquet of violets is set against the antique charm of dried petals found between the pages of a book. Traces of past memories turn to the present as a peppery note swells over a calm trace of mossy wood. A scent that breathes in the secret hours of night, it is mysterious and fragile—yet leaves a lasting trail.

Notes:
Violet Leaf, Pepper, Cedarwood, Patchouli, Vetiver.
Style:
Light. Mysterious. Antique.

I absolutely love this perfume. A little goes a long way and it lasts all day. The first time I ever sprayed this perfume on me I was shopping in Sephora. I sprayed one spray and didn’t think much of it– but as I was shopping around the mall, I kept getting whiffs of it and by the time I left the mall I was sold!

Jimmy Choo – Jimmy Choo

Luminous green top notes join a heart of rich and exotic tiger orchid and lingering base notes of sweet toffee and Indonesian patchouli to leave a sensual memory on the skin.

Notes:
Green, Tiger Orchid, Toffee, Sensual Indonesian Patchouli.
Style:
Feminine. Luxurious. Stylish.

This perfume smells so warm and cozy to me, that’s why I love wearing it in the fall/winter. I just love wearing this with a big, cozy, chunky sweater!

Chanel – Chance

A decidedly young scent for those who dare to dream. A light, subtly sensual fragrance, filled with vitality and energy, evolves from one moment to the next, each wholly unique. – (The Sephora website doesn’t list the notes for this one.)

This is a light scent but a little strong for during hot summer days. I do love this perfume for a night out though. This is definitely a “getting dressed up” perfume for me and the perfect complement to a fancy dress.

Something to definitely keep in mind is that each perfume will smell different on everyone. When I first sprayed the Balenciaga Paris perfume, I wasn’t impressed but as it meshed with my body chemistry I loved it more and more. Definitely go to the mall or your nearest department store and try them out on yourself before you invest.

Dry Winter Hands Remedy

IMG_1579

This time of year, if I’m not religiously moisturizing my hands, the winter can get the best of them. I try my best to moisturize every time I wash them but let’s be honest, it doesn’t always happen, and before you know it, your hands are dry and scaly. These are just a couple simple things you can do to get your hands back from the throws of winter skin.

Exfoliate.

First off, you need to exfoliate. I know this sounds like the last thing you would want to do to your poor, dry, irritated hands but trust me, you need to. If you don’t get that top layer of dry skin off, no matter how much moisturizer you put on top, it WILL NOT sink in. Now, you definitely don’t want to scrub harshly. Just lightly scrub your hands, rinse with lukewarm water, and pat them dry to prep them for the next step. A couple of my favorite hand/body scrubs are JR Watkins, Giovanni or even just some coconut oil and epsom salts mixed together would do the trick.

Moisturize.

– You want to pick a gentle lotion and apply it generously. Because you exfoliated off the top layer of skin, it will sink in beautifully. I would probably even do two layers of lotion. Some of my favorites are Nature’s Gate, Crabtree & Evelyn, Aveda, and Nourish Organic.

– Finally, I like to apply a cuticle cream/oil to my nails and cuticles to lock in the moisture even more. I love Crabtree & Evelyn and Burt’s Bees.

February Empties

Can you believe February is almost over?! One of my New Year’s Resolutions was to use up the stuff I already have so I have been going through products like crazy. Check out my latest empties in the video below!

Julep Nail Polish – Rochelle

IMG_1466I love painting my nails. It’s one of my favorite ways to relax and unwind. It’s also the main reason I don’t love gel nail polish as much as everyone else, it lasts too long. I like to switch my nail color out once a week and a weekly trip to the nail salon is not in my budget.

I’m a big fan of Julep polishes but especially this one. I got this color in one of my Julep Maven Boxes and just tried it out this weekend.  I absolutely LOVE it! It’s a magenta/purple/iridescent shade that is so gorgeous when the light hits it.

If you’re interested in checking out Julep nail polishes, their monthly Maven box is a really great deal. Click the link for more information!

Valentine’s Red Lip Favorites

image1

My favorite reds are blue toned. They complement most skin tones and make your teeth look whiter so that’s what I normally stick with. Here are some of my favorites…

image2

Bite Beauty High Pigment Pencil – “Pomegranate”

This is probably the warmest red out of all of them but it’s so gorgeous. This is so comfortable on the lips, glides on smoothly, and had pretty good staying power too!

image3

Clinique Chubby Stick Intense – “Mightiest Marachino”

This is extra creamy, almost glossy, and slightly sheer. This is a good pick if you want to try out a red lip for the first time.

image4

Revlon Lip Butter – “Red Velvet”

This is a deep red that is really wearable. It’s not in your face at all and like all lip butters, it feels really good on the lips.

image5

Revlon Colorburst Matte Balm – “Standout” #250

This is definitely my favorite red out of the bunch. It’s matte, easy to apply with the pointed crayon tip, stays on all night, and doesn’t venture out of you lip line at all. I grab this one 99% of the time I’m going for a red lip.

What are some of your favorite red lip products? Let me know in the comments! ❤

Valentine’s Pink Lip Favorites

I love any excuse to wear pink lipstick. Here my top 5 favorites for Valentine’s day!

image2 Tarte LipSurgence Matte Lip Tint in “Destined”

This is a gorgeous matte magenta color with the slightest hint of purple.

image6Revlon Super Lustrous Lip Gloss in “Pink Pop”

Even though this is just a gloss it is so pigmented you could totally just wear it alone if you don’t want a high maintenance lip.

image5Too Faced Melted Liquified Longwear Lipstick in “Melted Fuschia”

This is BRIGHT. It definitely pops off your face and I love it! Plus, the formula is so longwearing and comfortable on the lips.

image4Bite Beauty High Pigment Pencil in “Winterberry”

I almost didn’t put this in because it was from a limited edition holiday kit but it is one of my all time favorites so I couldn’t not mention it. The formula of this stuff is amazing and they have so many other gorgeous colors.

image3Revlon Colorstay Colorburst Lacquer Balm in “Vivacious”

This is so moisturizing and pigmented. It looks just like the outside of the tube. Revlon definitely got it right with this one.

What are some of your favorite pink lip products? Let me know in the comments. I’ll be back on Wednesday with my top 5 picks for red lips!

Sephora Collection – Age Defy Eye Cream

FullSizeRender-1

As you all know by now, I have very dry, sensitive skin, so a lot of skin care products are misses for me. This, however, is not one of them. I picked this up on a whim because I wanted an eye cream that was affordable, super moisturizing, and suitable for sensitive skin. I had my eye on the First Aid Beauty 5 in 1 eye cream but this one was cheaper and I’ve had good luck with Sephora skincare in the past, so I decided to give it a shot.

Here are the claims on Sephora’s website…

What it is formulated to do:
This antiaging eye cream is a small wonder that’s packed with active ingredients to instantly refresh the eye area while visibly reducing smile lines. Its updated formula includes HydroSenn+, a natural ingredient proven to deliver immediate and long-lasting hydration more effectively than hyaluronic acid.

What it is formulated WITHOUT:
– Parabens
– Sulfates
– Synthetic Fragrances
– Phthalates
– GMOs
– Triclosan

What else you need to know:
HydroSenn+ is a plant-derived ingredient that leaves skin feeling soft and luxuriously comfortable. This fragrance-free formula is ideal for sensitive eyes.

Here’s my take…

I could not be more pleased with this product! It’s unscented, thick and moisturizing, fragrance free, and doesn’t irritate my sensitive eyes at all. I can put it on my eyelids and right up to the lower lash line and I have no irritation at all. When I wake up in the morning my eyes feel supple and soft. I had never heard of “HydroSenn+” but it definitely works better for my sensitive skin than Hyaluronic Acid.

I can’t speak to the wrinkle reducing claims because I don’t really have any wrinkles yet but I do feel like the intense moisturization is helping stave them off.

Also, a little goes a long way and all I need for both eyes is a pump/a pump and a half. Although I bought this as a nighttime eye cream, I have tried it during the day and if you don’t wait for it to fully sink in or apply too much it can get gloopy and pilly under your makeup, so watch out for that.

All in all, I love it! It does everything I wanted it to and it’s already lasted me months. I feel like my money was well spent and I will definitely be repurchasing!

If you want to try it out you can buy it here for $25 on Sephora’s website.
